Frequently Asked Questions

What are CA Studio Teachers

A CA Studio Teacher must hold dual California certifications in Multiple Subject K-12 and California Single Subject in English, Math, Science, Social Science, or a Foreign Language. A CA Studio Teacher is also trained as a child welfare worker. The Studio Teacher certification is issued by the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement in California and is valid for three years. See California Code of Regulations, Title 8, Chapter 6, Subchapter 2, Article 1, Section 11755(b).

CA Studio Teachers are responsible for the education of minors on-set as well as for the welfare of minors. CA Studio Teachers are also responsible for ensuring that each child actor has a current CA work permit. They also ensure that the minor receives an appropriate meal and rest breaks.

When is a CA Studio Teacher Required?

CA Studio Teachers are required year-round when a California child performer is working on a production. A CA Studio Teacher must be provided for the education of all minors up to 18 years old unless a minor has graduated from high school.

One CA Studio Teacher is required for every ten child actors on weekdays.

Production companies must provide a CA Studio Teacher when child performers under 16 are working. During weekends or school holidays, one CA Studio Teacher (for every 20 child actors) must be present at the place of employment for welfare purposes.

How Long can a Minor Work in One Day?

The length of time a child performer can spend on-set can vary depending on the age of the child performer, as well as the location where the project is taking place.

What Are Your Rates?

Rates sometimes depend on the length of your project, the locations where you are filming, and the availability of teachers in your area. However, check out our Membership program, which offers the lowest effective rates in the industry for certified and background-checked CA Studio Teachers.
